beat.
Rationale:
Music/singing offers self-discovery, knowledge of beat, rhyme and
rhythm and auditory and kinesthetic value to children. Music/singing
can be used to educate students about their own culture as well as
other cultures. Music/singing invites and encourages students to be
creative while they learn important concepts.
Objectives:
Creative Expression: Students will be able to listen and identify the
rhythm pattern and apply those concepts to a group creation of the
rhythm with a different instruments.
Strategy: A
combination of direct instruction, guided discovery.

Introduction: Why is
music/singing important to you? What do you like about music? What kind
of music do you like? Today we are going to learn about the rhythm
pattern in the song Yankee Doodle.
Procedures:
The
teacher will read Yankee Doodle.
The
students will read and sing Yankee Doodle to the beat.
The
teacher will lead the class by clapping the beat to Yankee Doodle.
The
students will practice the beat using a new instrument (classroom items
or body parts).
The
students will get into groups of 5 and practice the beat with an
instrument of their choice.
Closure: Each group
will perform their beat for the class. Does anyone have any questions
about beat? Did you enjoy this activity? Who can tell me what Beat
means? Rhythm?
Evaluation:
The students will be evaluated by their comments about rhythm and beat
and if they seem to enjoy the lesson or not. I will look for a correct
presentation of rhythm pattern in the group performance.
