Topic: A
music/singing lesson that expresses the value of work.
Objectives:
- Creative
Expression: Students will listen to four songs and
describe the tempo for each song and identify the type of work
described in each song.
Vocabulary:
- Tempo:
The speed of the music (i.e. quick, fast, low, pace, allegro, lento,
swift, rapid, steady).
Introduction: Talk
about the meaning of expression through music. The songs in this lesson
express the value of work.
Procedures:
- Give
children the opportunity to listen to and join in rhymes about work,
such as “Whistle While You Work”, “I Have
Been Working on the Railroad”, “Little Bo
Peep”, and “Pat a Cake”.
- For
each song the students will discuss the tempo and build vocabulary.
- Finally,
they will discuss what type of work each song is referring to.
Closure: The
students will be grouped and given a song to evaluate what type of work
and tempo is being expressed.
Evaluation:
The students will be evaluated by the comments about tempo and by the
type of work expressed in their song.

Websites for the songs.
