Bill Vasquez
Employee of the Month, Dec 2011/2012

Groundskeeper Specialist
Maintenance Department

Bill was hired by the National School District in February of 2006. Mr. Vasquez came to us from the US Navy from which he retired as a Commander. In his role as a Groundskeeper Specialist, Bill made an immediate impact within the Department. His work ethic to make National School District the best it could be was obvious from the very start.

Bill brought many new and exciting ideas to the Grounds Department. He was instrumental in switching our irrigation controllers over to a new system. The Smart-line weather-matic system featured a weather head that actually took atmospheric measurements of the current weather conditions and adjusted the irrigation controller to provide the proper amount of watering time to match the weather. If it is hot it waters more, if it is cool it will water less. In the long run, it decreased the amount of water the District was using to maintain the grassy areas.

Bill has also been very instrumental in spear heading school site gardens for the students. This latest garden at Central was designed for the entire student body, with grade levels having their own raised bed garden plot. Bill gave classes to students on how to plant and maintain a productive garden. His efforts in helping students and staff is only matched by his desire to make National School District the very best it can be.
