Here are the answers to some questions that are frequently asked by other teachers using the Promethean Board that we hope you find helpful.

Click on the questions below to find the answer - My cursor (arrow) does not line up with the tip of my stylus (ActivPen). How do I calibrate the ActivPen? - Suddenly my Activpen is not so active! The cursor won't follow it any more. - My Activstudio software does not look like it did in the training session. Why are there tool icons along the top of the flipchart page, and a scroll bar? - I am having trouble sharing a flipchart with a colleague. When I attach it to a Groupwise email, it won't open up properly. - I can't get the audio to work on my Promethean Board. Help! - When I use photos in my flipchart (browse to other folders) the background shows through some of the black parts of the image. - I want to use my handy "USB flash drive" to save and share flipchart files, but I can't get my computer to recognize it.
My cursor (arrow) does not line up with the tip of my stylus (ActivPen). How do I calibrate the ActivPen? Hover over the Promethean Flame in the upper left corner of your ActivBoard until the board goes all white. Follow the onscreen instructions to calibrate the pen.
-Click the board anywhere -Click in the center of each of 5 cross-hairs (+) -Enjoy your ActivBoard |  | Suddenly my Activpen is not so active! The cursor won't follow it any more. There are several steps you can try to revive your Activpen. Here they are in order of difficulty.
1. Check all your connections. Close the Activstudio software and start it up again. 2. Perhaps the most frequent problem over the last few days has been for the laptop to "go to sleep" and lose connection with the Board. You can prevent your laptop from sleeping while it's plugged in. - Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel - Open the "Power Options" preferences control panel. - In the list of settings under "Plugged In", change everything to "Never". 3. Re-start your computer. 4. Try to calibrate your pen. If the pen hovering over the light does not work, go to the "Dashboard", select the "Configure" tab, and click on the "Calibrate" button. 5. Turn off your projector, and let it cool off. Pull the electric plug from the outlet, then plug it back in again. Pull the USB cable out of your computer, and plug it back in again. Then re-start your computer. 5. Submit a request for help! This should not be happening with any frequency. |  | My Activstudio software does not look like it did in the training session. Why are there tool icons along the top of the flipchart page, and a scroll bar? First of all, go to the main menu, select "Customize" and then "Flipchart Style". You want "Standard Activstudio" NOT "Standard Windows". Secondly, you MAY be in "Design Mode". Look in the main menu. The item at the top is "Design Mode". You do not want a checkmark beside this, unless you really want to be in Design Mode. |  | I am having trouble sharing a flipchart with a colleague. When I attach it to a Groupwise email, it won't open up properly. Be sure to drag the flipchart icon completely OUT of the attachment window in your Groupwise email, onto your desktop. From there, you can double-click the icon and it will open in Activstudio just fine. |  | I can't get the audio to work on my Promethean Board. Help! The black audio cable (has a mini stereo plug on each end), should connect the headphone jack on your laptop with the "audio in" jack on your wall plate (unless the installers wired the "out" plug!). The controls are on the side of your board. Turn the sound control all the way up on your laptop. Make sure the sound is not muted! There is an "on-off" switch, and 3 volume dials (labeled "AUX"). Only one of these actually works! The other 3 dials are a little equalizer, where you can adjust the gain on the "lows", "mid-range" and "high" sound frequencies. Make sure your sound is not muted. On the new HP laptops there is a little green light at the top of the keyboard that you touch with your finger to control |  | When I use photos in my flipchart (browse to other folders) the background shows through some of the black parts of the image. Before dragging the photo from your Resource Library onto your flipchart page, UNCHECK the Transparent option at the bottom of the Resource Library. |  | I want to use my handy "USB flash drive" to save and share flipchart files, but I can't get my computer to recognize it. Most computers want to recognize a flash drive as the "F: drive" in your My Computer window. But our computers are set to mount the "Main" file server as the F: drive. How to fix it? First open up "My Computer". Right-click on the "Main F:" server icon and then click "Disconnect". The icon should go away. Now insert your flash drive in the USB port, and press the F5 key to refresh your view. You should now see your flash drive mounted as F: and you can actually use it! |  |
