At this time of the year we normally administer the CST (California Standards Test) in grades 2nd through 6th grade. However, with the implementation of Common Core standards beginning next year, our students will be participating in a field test this school year called the Smarter Balanced Assessment. This new assessment is taken online on a computer. Our school district purchased additional computers for the administration of this assessment. We will be taking this opportunity to see how well our technical capabilities meet the demands of computer-based assessments and to identify resources that our teachers and school may need in the future.
This year only grades third through sixth will be participating in this field test. The test will be administered on different weeks depending on the grade level. We will begin testing on Wednesday, April 16th through May 15th. Please note that parents will not receive results from the field test. This year’s test will give teachers and schools a chance to practice test administration procedures and students the opportunity to experience the new assessments. Our schools will be working closely together to address any issues that we experienced before the assessment becomes fully operational during the 2014-2015 school year.
Like always we ask that your child arrive to school on time so that they can have the experience of taking this new assessment.
