It has been a busy first month, and we are proud at how well your children have adjusted to being back at school. Classrooms are full of excitement and curiosity, and we have high expectations for their success this year. A critical key to that success is staying healthy and attending school. 

As an effort to keep our students healthy, we remain vigilant with our COVID-19 protocols; encouraging handwashing, distancing, and masking as appropriate. We ask that if your child is sick and exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, you keep them home. Until now, students exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms have had to show multiple negative tests before returning to school. As of Monday, August 29, 2022, however, students will only need to show one (1) negative covid test for verification when sent home or absent for symptoms to be cleared for return. A second test is still recommended.

Another change we will be making starting Monday will be how and when we notify families of COVID-19 cases at our schools. Due to the high prevalence of COVID-19 cases in our community, parents have been inundated with notifications. Therefore, we have made the careful decision to limit notifications to families and only send letters when there are multiple linked cases from different households in a classroom, or when there is a high number of cases at a school in a week. If you would like to track daily cases, you can still do so through the COVID-19 button on our District website at www.nsd.us. 

Home isolation is still required for students testing positive for COVID-19; however, they may not be required to isolate for the full ten days. Following a notification of a positive COVID test, a student qualifies for a return sooner than day 11 if all the following criteria are met:

• Student must be symptom free.
• Parent must pick up a test from school site on day six (6) though 10 and test outside of the school.
• A negative test result must be shown to office staff.
• Student must wear a mask through day 10 from first positive test date or symptom onset.

Lastly, all visitors must wear a mask at all times indoors. If you wish to volunteer, you will need to complete a volunteer application and TB test. Volunteers will also be asked to wear a mask indoors, and will be required to be vaccinated or participate in weekly testing. Antigen tests may be completed at home, marked with your name and the date, photographed, and submitted directly to the school principal. If you need access to antigen tests for this purpose, please inquire in your school office. We’re excited to have our volunteers back!

Ha sido un primer mes ocupado y estamos orgullosos de lo bien que sus hijos se han adaptado a estar de regreso a la escuela. Las aulas están llenas de emoción y curiosidad, y tenemos grandes expectativas para su éxito este año. Una clave crítica para ese éxito es mantenerse saludable y asistir a la escuela. 

Como un esfuerzo para mantener a nuestros alumnos saludables, permanecemos atentos con nuestros protocolos de COVID-19; fomentar el lavado de manos, el distanciamiento y el uso del cubrebocas, según corresponda. Le pedimos que si su hijo(a) está enfermo y presenta síntomas de COVID-19, lo mantenga en casa. Hasta ahora, los alumnos que presentan síntomas de COVID-19 han tenido que mostrar múltiples pruebas negativas antes de regresar a la escuela. Sin embargo, a partir del lunes 29 de agosto de 2022, los alumnos solo necesitarán mostrar una (1) prueba de COVID negativa como verificación cuando se envíen a casa o se ausenten a causa de síntomas para su regreso. Todavía se recomienda una segunda prueba. 

Otro cambio que haremos a partir del lunes será cómo y cuándo notificaremos a las familias de los casos de COVID-19 en nuestras escuelas. Debido a la alta prevalencia de casos de COVID-19 en nuestra comunidad, los padres han sido inundados con notificaciones. Por lo tanto, hemos tomado la decisión cuidadosa de limitar las notificaciones a las familias y solo enviar cartas cuando hay múltiples casos vinculados de diferentes hogares en un aula, o cuando hay un alto número de casos en una escuela en una semana. Si desea realizar un seguimiento de los casos diarios, aún puede hacerlo a través del botón COVID-19 en nuestro sitio web del Distrito en www.nsd.us. 

El aislamiento domiciliario sigue siendo necesario para los alumnos que dan positivo a COVID-19; sin embargo, es posible que no se les exija aislar durante los diez días completos. Después de una notificación positiva de COVID, un alumno califica para su regreso antes del día 11 si se cumplen todos los siguientes criterios: 

• El alumno debe estar libre de síntomas. 
• Los padres deben recoger una prueba en el sitio de la escuela el día seis (6) al 10 y hacer la prueba afuera de la escuela.
• Se debe mostrar un resultado negativo al personal de la oficina.
• El alumno debe usar un cubrebocas hasta el día 10 desde la primera fecha positiva de la prueba o desde el inicio de los síntomas. 

Por último, todos los visitantes deben usar un cubrebocas en todo momento en lugares cerrados. Si desea ser voluntario, deberá completar una solicitud de voluntariado y una prueba de tuberculosis. También se les pedirá a los voluntarios que usen un cubrebocas en el interior, y se les pedirá que se vacunen o participen en pruebas semanales. Las pruebas de antígenos se pueden completar en casa, marcar con su nombre y la fecha, fotografiarse y enviarse directamente al director de la escuela. Si necesita acceso a las pruebas de antígenos para este propósito, favor de preguntar en la oficina de su escuela. ¡Estamos emocionados de tener a nuestros voluntarios de regreso!
